Worthing College take learning to the Xtreme

Worthing College

On Thursday 13 November, the Xtreme Everest welcomed twenty four students from Worthing College, to learn a bit more about the research work we are undertaking, as well as offering them the opportunity to undertake some experiments in the laboratory here at the Institute for Sport, Exercise and Health (ISEH).

Xtreme Everest 2 Research Leader, Dr Ned Gilbert-Kawai was on hand to talk the students through research methods used by XE as well as giving an insight into life at base camp. The students themselves are preparing to undertake research projects of their own and used this opportunity to quiz Ned on the best approaches to take.

As well as having a tour of the ISEH's clinical facilities and a talk from Development Director, Matt James about the Institute and the work undertaken here, the students also had the opportunity to participate in some simple experiments including using jump mats to calculate how high they could jump and undertaking a spirometry test to look at lung capacity and air flow.

The day proved to be a great success for both students and researchers and XE look forward to hearing about their studies and results.
