Revisit Christmas past with Prof Montgomery's Peak Performance lecture

Dr Hugh Montgomery

It's only 21 days until Christmas 2014, and of course Christmas means the return of the brilliant Royal Institute Christmas lectures.

In 2007, XE's Professor Hugh Montgomery presented his own series of Christmas lectures which looked at an exploration of human endurance, and the very thin line between life and death.

The third in his series of five focused on how the human body uses oxygen, and at how the respiratory system has adapted over time. During the lecture other members of the Xtreme Everest team were also on hand to show some of the experiments that took place whilst at base camp. This helped to demonstrate to the audience what happens to our bodies when we are in environments that have less oxygen (at Everest base camp this amounts to half the oxygen available at sea level).

To watch this lecture and the others in his series in full, visit the Royal Institute website.
