Participants required for ISEH and Xtreme Everest study

The ISEH and Xtreme Everest are currently running a study that is looking for participants. Entitled The Microcirculatory Simulated Altitude Sea-Level Study (Micro SAS Study) - the microcirculatory response to a short term normobaric hypoxic challenge is hoping to see if they can pinpoint the exact time frame of when some physiological responses to altitude occur.

If you are interested in taking part, please contact the researcher directly.

Brief synopsis of the research study
This is a follow-on study from the Xtreme Everest 2 expedition. We are investigating the exact time frame of some of the physiological responses to altitude that were evident on our mountain expeditions.

We ask that subjects sit in our hypoxic chamber (at a simulated altitude of 4500m) for 8 hours. Every two hours we will take pictures under the subject̢۪s tongue using a specific camera and will also be non-invasively measuring the blood flow in their arm. We would also like to take a small amount of blood at the beginning and at the end of the test.

You will be provided with lunch and will have full access to Wi-Fi and movies.

Inclusion criteria
Subjects can be either male or female and must be:

  • over 18
  • must not be pregnant
  • have no serious medical conditions

Dates available
We have dates in September available, please contact the researcher for more information.
