Blog from Namche

Dan Martin and Ned Gilbert

We are sitting in the Everest Bakery in Namche. We have just walked down from the Everest View Hotel, where we enjoyed their infamous 'steak sandwiches'. We had walked up there from the Stupa erected to commemorate Tenzing Norgay. The team have just recorded three short videos in front of a stunning view of Everest, Lhotse, and the Nuptse wall. We are hoping that we will be able to upload them to Youtube. Keep an eye on the Xtreme Everest webiste to find the link to them.

The team have also popped in to see Lhakpa Sonam, who runs the lodge we used to site the laboratories in Namche in 2007. Lhakpa has added another floor to the lodge, and an extra room to his photo museum. This second room shows photos of many of the Sherpas that have summitted Everest. We found photos of two of the Sherpas that climbed with us in 2007 - Pasang and Mingma.

We are staying in the Khumbu Lodge in the centre of Namche. I have a view of the stage that is currently being erected for the Namche Festival. This festival is held over the anniversary of Edmund Hillary's birthday on May 29th. Lhakpa Sonam is in the process of finalising a photographic exhibition that will be displayed at the Festival. Unfortunately, we will have left to return to Kathmandu before then.
