Sr Paula Meale

Paula Meale

Paula is a Research Nurse in the Divsion of Surgery and Interventional Science, University College London, specialising in postoperative outcomes and critical care research.

Paula studied Adult Nursing at the Royal Free School of Nursing & University of North London. Her clinical background included vascular, liver & breast surgery; haematology oncology; surgical high dependency and most recently Intensive Care Nursing at University College London Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. In 2011 Paula completed an MSc which focused on patient outcome in relation to operative day of the week.

Paula also has an interest in enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) programmes. Having designed, developed & launched such protocols within the NHS, she currently works as an advisor for this at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.

In 2007, Paula ran the Caudwell Xtreme Everest Kathmandu Laboratory and in 2010 the Xtreme Alps Margherita Hut laboratory. In 2013 she will be responsible for the set up, launch and management of the Everest Base Camp laboratory.
