On Thursday 5th December, a team of polar athletes who are attempting a 210-day unsupported expedition to the North Pole, visited the Xtreme Everest team at the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health in London for their second day of testing.
The Xtreme Everest team, led by Dr. Ned Gilbert -Kawai, previously tested the four athletes in November and hope to collect their third set of data in Greenland as soon as the Dark Ice team complete their journey. The testing consisted of techniques and experimental methods similar to those used on Everest earlier this year.
We are delighted to be working with the Dark Ice team as this gives an exciting opportunity for the Centre for Altitude, Space and Extreme environment (CASE) Medicine group to expand into other extreme environments that we have not yet studied. The Dark Ice team are due to begin their expedition to the North Pole shortly (beginning on 15th December) and we wish Alex, James, Anastasia and Anders the best of luck on their venture.
