Meet the Xtreme Runners - David

Professor David Howard

This year we have been overwhelmed with the support from trekkers, colleagues and sponsors who have all wanted to be involved with raising money for Phase Worldwide.

Last year we had three runners take on the Bournemouth Marathon, this year we have 15 joining the Xtreme Runners.

Over the next few days, we will be profiling a few of them to get their hints and tips on making it round the course.

First up is David, who has been a member of Xtreme Everest since 2007. He ran last year with Kay and Mike, and has decided to return and do it all again.

Xtreme Runner - David

What distance are you running

Full Marathon

Why are you running?

To avoid senility - maybe it's a lost cause?

What has been your training method?

I have adopted the Dr Dan Martin/ Dr Sundeep Dhillon method - Sit,eat, drink, sleep and don't worry.

What is your running tip?

Do NOT write your name in big bold letters on your running vest (as frequently advised by Marathon organizers). When you have heard " Come on Dave!" four hundred and thirteen times it has a tendency to get slightly irritating when you are absolutely knackered with another 20 miles left to run/walk.

What is your Bournemouth Marathon goal?

To avoid all giant holes in the ground and not to become seriously ill during the event and requiring resuscitation by Dr Denny Levett or Prof Mike Grocott!

So if you are going to the event, please do look out for them in their Xtreme Runners tops and give them some support or if you see as at the beginning or end please do come over and chat to us about our research.

Don't forget you can also donate to our fund here
