Extreme Summits - BFI celebrates 60th anniversary of first ascent of Everest

'Great things are done when men and mountains meet/ this is not done by jostling in the street' - William Blake.

The BFI celebrates the anniversary by showing a series of mountaineering documentaries from the high Himalayas. This includes the screening of the newly restored 'The Epic of Everest' by Captain John Noel. This documents the tragedy of the loss of Mallory and Irvine near the summit of Everest in 1924 which is the subject of long standing debate.
