James Carroll - Expedition Manager

Jimmy Carroll

Xtreme Everest 2 Expedition Manager, Jimmy, is currently serving in the British Army as a Captain in 1st The Queens Dragoon Guards. He has recently returned from his second tour of Afghanistan, working with the Afghan National Army (ANA) conducting detailed military planning and execution of training and advisory for 130 personnel. He has been awarded a Mention in Despatches (MiD) for gallantry for each of his last two tours of Afghanistan. In his time off from Operational tours, Jimmy has been involved with the running of numerous expeditions and sporting tours, these have included participating in and managing a team for 4 months culminating in competing at the British National Biathlon & Cross Country Ski Championships.

Jimmy has worked in a variety of jobs within the Army all over the world and has had a keen passion for testing himself at the most physically demanding end of what the Army has to offer, and Wales!

Away from the physical aspects of the job he has worked within the Ministry of Defence delivering UK strategic policy and governance through coordinated stakeholder meetings for the security, commercial and operational communities of the cross Whitehall community. The role also included compiling and managing visits worldwide by heads of British Defence Staff and UK dignitaries including Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, where he accompanied them as part of the Royal Household to the UAE and Oman.

Throughout all this Jimmy has been thrown into the Media spotlight at numerous times and delivered live and recorded interviews to national TV, radio and newspapers.

Jimmy is a keen traveller and has visited just shy of 50 countries. His latest travels this year, took him to Central/South America attempting to cross the notorious Darien Gap. The Himalayas are untrodden territory for Jimmy and he is keen to work outside of the military environment fully immersing himself in all the expedition has to offer. Since joining the team he has been involved with gaining sponsorship and the logistics task which lies ahead.
